  • SEM Products announced in September 2008 that it will locate its headquarters and manufacturing facility in York County, SC and is expected to 85 jobs to the county. SEM manufactures a broad array of specialty aerosols, adhesives and coatings for the automotive, marine and aerospace industries.
  • Lear Corp. announced in September 2008 that it is investing $10.8 million in its Spartanburg, S.C. plant. Lear supplies seats to BMW
  • In 2008, Palmetto Synthetics, a manufacturer of specialty polyester fibers used in the automotive industry, announced a $3 million expansion of its plant in Kingstree, S.C. The expansion will include a 30,000-square-foot addition, a new product line and 25 new jobs.
  • International Center Automotive Research (ICAR)
  • LSP Automotive Systems LLC announced that it will expand its facility in Union County, South Carolina. The $45 million investment is expected to create 61 new jobs.
  • The first major machinery shipment destined for Kia Motors arrives at its under construction plant West Point, Georgia, October 2008.
  • Magna-Tech of Indiana is investing $2.5 million in NC for a new automotive castings production facility The facility will heat, treat and seal automotive castings.
  • Navistar celebrated the opening of a second engine plant in Huntsville, AL in September 2008, producing large diesel engines for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
  • Pirelli Tire North America announced that will add a new production line to its Rome, GA facility (2009), investing $15 million. Pirelli relocated its U.S. headquarters and manufacturing facility to Rome in 2002, where it produces high-end tires for the automotive industry.
  • Exide, an Alpharetta-based car and truck battery manufacturer, announced in 2008 it is filling 60 new engineering positions. The company will create a new division that will oversee development of technologies used in next generation car and truck batteries.
  • Honda announced that it will move production of its popular V-6 Accord model from its plant in Ohio to its plant in Alabama. This represents the first time it will make passenger cars at the Alabama facility. Earlier this year, Honda announced it was shifting assembly of its Ridgeline pickup from a plant in Canada to Alabama.
